Organizers Summarized the XV International Forum and Exhibition “Transport of Russia”

2021-11-18

The anniversary XV International Forum and Exhibition “Transport of Russia” in Moscow has ended. The events were held November 16 to 18, within the framework of the Transport Week. Traditionally, the Forum is a platform for discussing the entire range of issues relating to the development of key transport modes in Russia, while the Exhibition reflects the main achievements of the industry of the past year.

It was a hybrid event, in line with all the requirements of epidemiological safety. This year’s theme was “Transport of Russia – 2035. From Strategy to Implementation”. 27 business format events took place over 3 days, with 1,189 participants from 15 countries. Over 300 speakers made their presentations on the most relevant issues relating to the development of the industry. On the sidelines of the Transport of Russia, 31 cooperation and interaction agreements were signed, with 536 journalists from 255 media outlets covering the Forum and the Exhibition. Similar to the last year's event, there were online transmissions of all open business sessions. The transmissions had 232,000 views over 3 days.

Leading transport market players had their displays at the Exhibition. Visitors could see all the relevant and innovative results of the industry there. In 2021, over 90 exhibitors took part in the exhibition part of the event, installing their stands in a floor space of 3,900 square meters. Delegations from 46 regions of Russia were physically present at the Forum and the Exhibition. 25 of the delegations were led by the top government officials of their respective regions.

The business program of the Forum becomes more substantive every year. This year, it opened with the plenary discussion “Transport of Russia – 2035. From Strategy to Implementation”. During the event, the Presidential Aide Igor Levitin delivered a welcome address to the participants of the Forum on behalf of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. In the address, the President outlined the tasks for the transport industry: “It is important that today we focus our efforts on primary professional tasks relevant to our time, achieve real, palpable outcomes in infrastructure modernization, improvement of reliability and safety of transportation, development of transit logistics routes, and renovation of public transport in cities and regions of Russia.”

The business program of Day 1 continued with the roundtable “Opening of a Joint Educational Bachelor Program of the Higher School of Economics and the Russian University of Transport (MIIT)”, the conferences “Digitalization of Urban Transport System Management Processes: Safety, Quality and Efficiency” and “Round-the-World Voyage of the Mir Training Sailing Ship in 2022-2023”, the discussions “Digital Logistics 2021/2024/2030: from Transformation of Companies to Leadership of the Whole Transportation Sector” and “Infrastructure vs. Tariff. Searching for Meaningful  Solutions”, and the Meeting of the State Council Commission
of the Russian Federation on Transport, which, according to Mikhail Blinkin, Director of the Institute for Transport Economics and Transport Policy Studies of the Higher School of Economics (HSE University), was “most productive, contentious and intense.”

Day 2 of the Transport of Russia was equally busy. The participants of the International Foresight Discussion “Driverless Transport: The Future Has Come. Are We Ready for It” delved into issues such as traffic safety in the context of future driverless logistics corridors, commercialization of digital infrastructure, and ensuring personal data protection. The event was followed by 4 sector-specific conferences, 2 panel discussions, a roundtable event, a presentation of a study on the current status, prospects and advantages of unmanned aviation systems in the Russian Federation by the Infrastructure Economics Center, and an extended Meeting of the Committee for Transport and Development of Transport Infrastructure of the State Duma of the Russian Federation.

The last day, November 18, offered the panel discussion “Green Agenda in the Transportation Sector”, which focused on the outlook for implementation of green financing mechanisms in the transportation sector, its transformation in the context of the transition to low-carbon economy, and measures necessary to foster the development of eco-friendly transportation. The subsequent events of the day were the conference “Scientific Support to Transport Development: Trends in Innovation”, a visiting session  of the Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum
“Transport Frame of Siberia”, a roundtable event on public transport, and 3 sector-specific conferences.

The business program closed with the final plenary discussion. It started with the Movement Formula award ceremony. Mikhail Blinkin, Director of the Institute for Transport Economics and Transport Policy Studies of the Higher School of Economics (HSE University), member of the Expert Council under the Government of the Russian Federation, and Kirill Bogdanov, Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, handed out awards for the most significant projects in the industry.

During the discussion that followed, top officials of the Ministry of Transport summarized the outcomes of the discussions on issues relating to the development of key modes of transportation, which took place on the sidelines of the Transport of Russia event, and articulated tasks of the transport complex for next year. The emphasis was on the issues which transport service market players pointed out as requiring support from executive branch agencies and industry associations.
